Amid mounting political pressure, Amazon is to raise the minimum wage of its US-based warehouse workers to $15/hour. According to the New York times, this will affect more than 350,000 employees.
“We listened to our critics, thought hard about what we wanted to do, and decided we want to lead,” Amazon’s chief executive, Jeff Bezos, said in a statement. “We’re excited about this change and encourage our competitors and other large employers to join us.”
Hot on the heels of this good news came reports that some employees may be making less money. The increased stable wage seems to come at the cost of bonuses and stock options.
